SUEZ Energy Resources NA was licensed by the Maine Public Utilities Commission as a competitive supplier of electricity in March 2003. Currently we provide service to commercial and industrial customers in the following service territories:

  • Bangor Hydro Electric
  • Central Maine Power

Deregulation in Maine
Beginning in March 2000, Maine's electric industry was restructured to open the supply portion of electric service to a competitive market.   Customers in Maine may now select competitive suppliers, such as SUEZ Energy Resources NA, for market-priced generation service. The other components of electric service (transmission and distribution) are not open to competition and will continue to be provided by the traditional electric companies. If you do not sign up with a supplier, you will receive Standard Offer Service, which is the only default option available in Maine.  The Maine Public Utilities Commission administers the Standard Offer Service through the use of a bidding process.

What happens when you choose a new electricity supplier:

  1. The new supplier enrolls the customer, and the utility validates enrollment.
  2. The new supplier transmits utility account information to the utility in order to enroll you as a customer.
  3. The actual change of supplier occurs on the meter reading date following a successful enrollment.
